New Process for Requesting Sign Language Interpreters

Sep 24, 2019

Please read the following message from the HCA:

The Health Care Authority (HCA) will be partnering with the Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH) to create a new process for requesting sign language interpreters effective January 1, 2020.

Changes effective October 1, 2019
Effective October 1, 2019, Universal Language Service (Universal) will no longer accept requests for any sign language modality under the HCA contract for appointments on or after January 1, 2020.

  • If you already have interpreters scheduled for 2020 appointments, HCA will assist you in requesting them through the new process.
  • Universal will continue to fill requests for sign language interpreters for dates of service through December 31, 2019.
