HCA: Correction – Dental Services End of EPA #870001607 and Discontinued Use of CDT® Code D0170

The Health Care Authority (HCA) sent a provider alert on April 14, 2023, regarding the end of expedited prior authorization (EPA) number 870001607 and the discontinued use of CDT® code D0170. The dates of service were listed incorrectly as “on and after May 11, 2023” to align with the ending of the public health emergency (PHE).
The Health Care Authority (HCA) recently sent the following alert to dental Medicaid providers.

Attention Dental providers:

The Health Care Authority (HCA) sent a provider alert on April 14, 2023, regarding the end of expedited prior authorization (EPA) number 870001607 and the discontinued use of CDT® code D0170. The dates of service were listed incorrectly as “on and after May 11, 2023” to align with the ending of the public health emergency (PHE).

The PHE is effective through May 11, 2023. The end of the EPA number and discontinued use of the code will apply to Dates of service on and after May 12, 2023.

EPA #870001607 is associated with CDT® codes D9222, D9223, D9239, and D9243 for general anesthesia and intravenous sedation related to a dental emergency. Prior authorization requirements for these procedure codes will resume.

CDT® code D0170 is associated with reevaluation/established patient and will be discontinued for all providers except for orthodontists.
